Abstract:'The aim of this work is to present an overall picture of the phenomenon of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in Singapore and examine the measures implemented to date and the main challenges to be addressed, including in the area of legal protection. Based on a wide range of resources and documentation (articles, media materials, research reports, etc), the desktop research reveals that like other developed countries in the world, despite having high social and economic indicators and a child protection system in place, Singapore is affected by all manifestations of CSEC. While the absence of official statistics and estimations does not allow an assessment of the real extent of the problem, existing information suggests that these manifestations are increasingly intertwined and children are often victimised through multiple or complex forms of CSEC.'

'In her report ‘Barriers against child sex tourism’, the National Rapporteur analyses the possibilities for combating child sex tourism engaged in by Dutch nationals. The National Rapporteur defines child sex tourism as the commission of or any form of complicity in acts of sexual violence against children abroad, whether or not the victim has received or been promised money or goods in return. Child sex tourism encompasses three forms of sexual violence against children: sexual abuse of children, child pornography and child prostitution. The production of child pornography is a fairly common element in the context of child sex tourism. Coercing children in another country to perform webcam sex is also regarded as a form of child sex tourism.'
