Report: Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Children and Young People in Singapore

Date

11 Aug 2010

Abstract:

'The aim of this work is to present an overall picture of the phenomenon of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in Singapore and examine the measures implemented to date and the main challenges to be addressed, including in the area of legal protection. Based on a wide range of resources and documentation (articles, media materials, research reports, etc), the desktop research reveals that like other developed countries in the world, despite having high social and economic indicators and a child protection system in place, Singapore is affected by all manifestations of CSEC. While the absence of official statistics and estimations does not allow an assessment of the real extent of the problem, existing information suggests that these manifestations are increasingly intertwined and children are often victimised through multiple or complex forms of CSEC.'
